What Is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)?
An original equipment manufacturer (OEM) is a business that produces component parts for another company’s products. These other companies, called value-added resellers or VARs, will use the OEM products to build a finished product, which they will sell.
How Does an OEM Work?
OEMs work by producing goods that can be sold directly to another business so that they can manufacture a new product, and sell it under their brand name.
With increasing consumer demand for oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical products, the need for rapid expansion and development of OEMs offer several benefits to end-users looking to grow and expand their production. From large capital projects to quick turnarounds, today’s OEMs and fabricators can be found in every part of the supply chain.
Sourcing gaskets and seals can be a difficult task for OEM designers and buyers due to the wide array of material types, specifications, and options available. Additionally, these applications have very specific and stringent criteria, so choosing the right materials and fabrication method is critical.

OEMs are key to the development, design, and manufacture of industrial and commercial products and the component parts used to make them. The quality of OEM component parts and industry standards ensure proper performance. Engineers, MROs (maintenance, repair, and operations), and procurement professionals also rely on OEM manufacturing and engineering expertise. This technical knowledge is often provided in partnership with distributors. This know-how helps make sure that the parts and sub-assemblies used in finished products perform as designed.
Our Durlon® iGuard™ flange Isolation & Sealing Kits are designed to be used on flanges and piping systems to create a dielectric break, which provides cathodic protection, assist in the prevention of corrosion and eventual break down of the metal, and isolate any current in the piping system from continuing down the line.
Gasket styles are available in:
Type F (Raised Face)
The outside of the gasket fits inside of the flange bolt circle to ensure the exact positioning of the gasket.
Type E (Full Face)
This design facilitates proper alignment of the gasket during installation and prevents foreign material from shorting the flange isolation.
Type D (RTJ) flanges
This design specifically fits into the ring groove of ring-type-joint flanges.
From NPS 1/2” (DN15) to NPS 144” (DN 3600) or equivalent, to meet all international piping sizes. iGuard™ gaskets meet AWWA, ANSI, API, DN, JIS, and all other dimensional standards.
The Standard Kit
Consists of a gasket, isolating washers and isolating bolt/stud sleeves. The gasket carrier can be constructed of plain phenolic, neo-faced phenolic, epoxy glass (G-3, G-10, or G-11), epoxy glass (G-10) bonded to 316SS core, Durlon® 7910, 8400, 8500, or 9000.
Packaging
Each Durlon® iGuard™ Flange Isolation & Sealing Kit is packaged individually in durable corrugated boxes. Isolating sleeves and washers are packaged separately and cushioned within the box to protect them from damage during shipment. Each set is clearly tagged with flange size, pressure rating, type or isolating sleeve, and whether it is a single washer or double washer set.
